International competition began back in the 1930’s; typically some combination of Canada, the UK, USA, and later Bermuda. This evolved into the more organised and open to all team racing we have today. Fleet racing for the individual World Championship began in 1979 and has now become the major event, although the class still views the team racing as important. The World Championships are held every 18-24 months, depending on the host hemisphere.
